His favorite piece of mine may be the film Light Club, the story “The Light Club of Batavia” by Scheerbart is really amazing.
I heard him speak at Yale, where he is a critic as well. I really enjoyed his talk, and how he values his craftsmanship, research, and perfectionism. I think his work is probably too pleasant to be critical in the way he wants it to be, but I really admire how smart he is, and how much he cares about working in a particular way, within a particular framework. I loved the Light Club story because the story was the piece in a lot of ways, and his other work seems to have a narrative attached to it, instead of being integral to it.
